Kampong Rimba, Brunei-Muara, Brunei Darussalam. Story of a live-in Maid and Driver, a romantic affair, and unprotected sex. In the end, one cried rape and you could easily guess who. After destroying an innocent man's reputation with her lies, the justice system afforded her utmost leniency

October 03, 2018. Indonesian domestic worker named Rosalia Namok took to Berakas Police Station and lodged a sexual assault complaint alleging that her employer's driver forcefully dragged into his room and raped her. She claimed it happened the previous month while she was hanging the laundry outside, according to a report by Borneo Bulletin.

Following the report, within a few hours police apprehended the accused man, severely interrogated him and kept him in custody for the whole night while detectives launched an investigation which quickly revealed the rape complaint was false. Evidence obtained strongly suggested that Rosalia Namok was, in fact, in a consensual intimate relationship with the driver. Confronted with the evidence, the maid confessed that she made a false report.

So, why did she lie? According to police, Rosalia Namok said she was worried about a possible pregnancy which would lead to the termination of her employment, so she concocted the story hoping to get her Domestic Worker Agency to transfer her to another employer.

Based on how her lies destroyed an innocent man's life, the fictim (false victim) was charged under section 182 of the Penal Code - for providing False information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person. The recommended punishment under the code is "imprisonment for a term which may extend to 6 months, or a fine which may extend to BND 4,000 (Approx. $2,940), or with both". However, after having pleaded guilty to the charges, a court ordered Rosalia Namok to pay a much lower BND 2,500 (Approx. $1,838 USD) in fines.

October 06, 2018. Magistrate's Court. 23-year-old Rosalia Namok, unable to pay the fines, was sentenced to two months in jail. The magistrate noted aggravating factors in the fictim's action for causing injury to the reputation of the falsely accused man and wasting resources in pursuing a non-existent case.

Earlier in the year, we saw similar rape drama involved another Indonesian maid here. Also earlier in the year, a man falsely accused by an Indonesian girl died of imprisonment-related health complications. How much is too much? Watch this space
